Jake And Papa are back with their newest LP titled “Tattoos And Blues II”.
The Los Angeles brothers share their fourth official studio LP acting as the sequel to volume one reaching back to 2017. The siblings include their four advance singles in the release with ‘Best Part of You’ and ‘Do That There’ both debuting August 26th, followed by ‘Slipper When Wet’ and their new buzzing single ‘Promise’.
Jake&Papa write on social media about the project saying “this project is 4 years in the making. some tweaks, adjustments and additions along the way. all to make the message a little more clear. more defined. “There will be tattoos to ease the pain. They’ll be blues that fill our days. But as long as we’re together, that’s where we’ll stay. In love.”
“Promise” is exactly that, as Pop puts out a very personal story explaining the meaning behind this 90’s inspired song. Featuring vocal layers, chimes and beautiful harmonies, Pop confesses that these songs are from real life situations – and its not always easy. He says: “I started writing (‘Promise’) in 2019 while watching my lady go through postpartum depression. At the time I had never felt so helpless. She carried it well. Most people didn’t know. She kept pushing most days like nothing was wrong. She’s a soldier like that. But I knew. This is my baby. I know her. I know when something is wrong. And I like to think that I’m attentive and compassionate.”
He continues with his note saying “When someone I love is hurting, my first thought is to hurt whoever hurt them. But this was different. Not gonna lie, it frustrated me knowing that there was nothing I could do to make her feel better. All I wanted was for her to be happy. But this was bigger than me. For the first time I was worried about us. We had a newborn baby. Is she gonna make it through this? Are WE gonna make it through this? Why is she pushing me away? Does she not wanna do this?” He says during the tough times, this is what gets him through: “There’s a few things I’m always gonna do. Pray hard, hold my people down and write a fckin song! So that’s what I did. Best believe Ima Show you every day but just in case one day the rain is a little louder than my actions, play this. And know that I got your back like 4 flats on a Cadillac. That’s my word.”
The album is incredible, and I hope MusicGroup can put as many stream counts to this as possible, as this is one of those projects that needs to be heard in any space where R&B music is enjoyed. Get into it below or click here for your preferred streaming platform.
