Atlanta singer O’lay releases his latest EP titled “Rue”.
O’lay tags the project with the denotative meaning as “To feel sorrow or regret”, as an opportunity for him to transcend his current life into a new one. But there’s nothing to feel regret on with this EP, as he is brilliant on the four track offering. Taking to his IG on the release, he describes his oft-guarded state-of-mind as “I read somewhere that your new life will cost you your old one. That’s what lead me to call this EP RUE”.
Taking a sample from Jagged Edge’s ‘Walked Outta Heaven’ on ‘Mercedes’ Freestyle, the falsetto he goes in with raises eyebrows and awakens goosebumps as your curiosity and volume-dials both get turned up. Produced by go-to Aaron Smith, the track gives listeners that airy sensation of dreamy vocals atop multiple layers of silky ad lib’s.
He continue’s impressing on the finale with contributions from another familiar partner as Christiann’d shows up with writing credits on the Diamond Ray-featured ‘Obsession’. With an instrumental opening reminiscent of Snoh Aalegra’s ‘Dying For Your Love’, it’s clear by now what O’Lay’s signature sound is, as he uses his velvety-voice to captivate audiences.
This is the second project of his this year, previously releasing “Take You Serious” back in February, which also received a ChoppedNotSlopped remix version at the end of August. Take a spin on what O’lay has to offer on his new EP.
