Paloma Ford returns from her four-year hiatus with an impressive EP titled “X Tapes”.
She last released a project in 2016 with “Nearly Civilized” which saw three singles surpass 1M streams, and now she looks to eclipse those figures with her latest release. Packing seven songs on the release, of which four have previously been released reaching back to as far as 2019 with ‘Rain’, she still gives fans enough to celebrate with the remaining three singles.
‘Space’ is a perfectly written single that discusses the realization that things are coming to an end, going through the process of finishing a relationship, starting with step 1 of admitting its time to take a break and give eachother some space. The sorrow is manifested in the instrumental projecting that feeling of emptiness and hollowness, as Paloma hits her upper register “a little time, a little space” as they think about the time they wasted.
Sticking to that theme, ‘Only One’ feels like a continuation of ‘Space’ as the couple go through a breakup, this time finding out her partner has been untrue and has issues – and he knows it. Its frustrating that she thinks she’s better on her own, because she really thought she had something there… perfectly wrapping up the song with the lyric “Cuz its Fuck you / but I Love you”.
